State Lands Commission Approves Rezoning Land at Alameda Point
Land swap completes a regulatory formality that was in the works for 12 years. Due to the history of filling in the Bay, first to create the rail line, and then under federal ownership the Naval Air Station, various parts of Alameda Point's interior remained officially designated as Tidelands Trust. Parts along the northern waterfront, on the other hand, never were designated Tidelands Trust. State law allows for taking land out of trust status if a like amount is added. The swap now allows for development to proceed in the mixed-use area.
