New York Times: Extended America’s Cup Leaves Some High, Dry and Homeless, September 24, 2013

Two America’s Cup teams eliminated in preliminary rounds, Artemis and Luna Rossa, are renting large seaplane hangars for $20,000 per month each on Alameda Point, a former naval air station, to work on and store their boats. The rental agreements were set to expire at the end of October. In the last several days, Artemis extended its lease by six months, but Luna Rossa has decided not to extend its lease.

“We’re glad Artemis is staying longer,” said Jennifer Ott, project manager for Alameda Point. “Team members and their families are renting apartments and houses here in Alameda, they are sending their kids to our schools and shopping at our stores. It is great for us.”
