Edmunds Inside Line: Feds Rev Up Test of Connected Vehicles, July 11, 2011

* The federal government is looking for volunteers to help it test connected-vehicle technologies at six locations in the U.S. starting in August.
* The U.S. Department of Transportation will also test wireless connected vehicle warning devices with "ordinary drivers" in normal roadway situations.
* The government wants to know if new technologies are a distraction or whether they will help save lives on the road.

Another clinic will be held December 5-7 at the Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, Texas. The testing wraps up with a January 16-19 clinic at the Alameda Naval Air Station in Alameda, California.
