The construction of a maintenance and operations center for ferries that travel on San Francisco Bay has reached a milestone, according to the company working on the project.

Concrete for the second-floor deck of the new Water Emergency Transportation Authority (WETA) center was poured Tuesday, Richmond-based Overaa Construction announced.

The pouring was important because it clears the way for the interior framing and mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection work to take place.
