East Bay Times: Trustees back plan to build 70 apartments for Alameda school employees, September 1, 2018

Teachers and other employees of the Alameda Unified School District may get some help finding housing in the Bay Area’s pricey real estate market.

The school board on Aug. 28 unanimously backed a plan to build 70 apartments for district employees at the former Alameda Naval Air Station with the aim of encouraging them to stay instead of moving where housing is cheaper.

Education Housing Partners, a company that works with school districts and other public agencies to promote publicly owned housing, would oversee construction of the $25 million project.

It intends to start building in summer 2021 and make the apartments available in fall 2022 for that upcoming school year.
