Excerpt:
The public can join the City Council on a walking tour of the area at Alameda Point where a new waterfront neighborhood featuring homes and businesses is planned.
Called "Site A" by city officials, the 68 acres around what's known as the Seaplane Lagoon will also have parks and open space, bicycle and walking paths and a new ferry terminal.
It is the first area of the former Alameda Naval Air Station slated for major redevelopment.
The March 28 walking tour will begin at 10 a.m. at 1800 Ferry Point and cover about one mile. It will take in key locations set for redevelopment, including those where homes and parks are planned, according to city officials.
