The neighborhood bordering San Francisco Bay that will become the "Town Center" of Alameda Point will include homes and businesses within walking distance of the waterfront, plus parks and other recreational amenities under a draft proposal that will go before the Planning Board on Wednesday.

The future Town Center would be located around what is now the Seaplane Lagoon at the former Alameda Naval Air Station, or the same area where the Swedish Artemis Racing crew transferred its boat into and out of the bay as part of the America's Cup.

Bike and pedestrian paths, a marina with ferry service docks, patios and overlooks as well as launching spots for kayakers also would be part of the future neighborhood, which currently features former U.S. Navy aircraft hangars, including one that was used by Artemis Racing.

The goal is to transform the area into "an iconic place-making destination," according to city officials.
