How much will it cost to provide police and fire service, parks and libraries to new residents and workers at Alameda Point? The city commissioned a study to find out how much it will ultimately cost the city to serve an estimated 3,240 residents of 1,425 new homes and more than 8,900 workers occupying 5.5 million square feet of offices, manufacturing and retail space each year. A draft of the study heading to the City Council on Tuesday says the Point will generate more money than the city spends to take care of the development - unless state lawmakers allow the city to leverage future property taxes to build roads, flood protection measures and utilities.
