Alameda Sun: Navy Estimates 10 years, Half Billion for Clean Up

It will cost taxpayers a total of $435.8 million to clean up the former Naval Air Station Alameda by the time work is completed a decade from now, according to the most recent government estimates.

"The cost spent to date on the Installation Restoration Program is $250.8 million," according to Thomas Macchiarella, the Alameda Base Realignment and Closure Commission environmental coordinator. "The cost to complete for the remaining environmental work is $185 million."
