Alameda Sun: Alameda and the Doolittle Raid, April 14, 2011

Excerpt:

On the morning of Tuesday March 31, 1942 the Navy's newest aircraft carrier, USS Hornet CV-8, steamed into San Francisco Bay and tied up to a pier at the Alameda Naval Air Station.

That afternoon, and continuing into the next day, the citizens of Alameda were treated to some unusual sights and sounds. Over this period, 22 U.S. Army Air Forces twin-engine B-25 Mitchell bombers roared into the Naval Air Station.
