The Metropolitan Transportation Commission has awarded the city of Alameda a $200,000 grant to prepare a plan for developing a Waterfront Town Center at Alameda Point.

The center would be located along the waterfront at the Seaplane Lagoon -- or near where Team Artemis plans to set up its base for the America's Cup sailing race -- and would offer a focus point for the redevelopment of the overall 918-acre site, according to city officials.

The plan that will be funded by the commission is expected to address issues such as land use, transportation and infrastructure at the former Alameda Naval Air Station. It will also build on rezoning efforts currently under way for the former base.
