ALAMEDA -- The public can weigh in as city officials begin the work to create a draft Environmental Impact Report for Alameda Point, a document that will address how traffic, hazardous materials and other issues will play into the redevelopment of the former Navy base.

The work to create the draft EIR, which will begin Monday when the Planning Board hosts a "scoping meeting," will take a year before the document is eventually finished and goes before the City Council for final certification.

Along with gathering public input, city officials will brief the board Monday on the work to update the zoning for Alameda Point and their effort to prepare a "Town Center Plan" for the area near the former base's Seaplane Lagoon.
