San Clemente Times: Courtney’s Sand Castle Moves Forward
Excerpt:
The total cost for the design work is $59,370, the balance of which ($23,595) from donations made to the playground over the years and kept in the Parks Acquisition & Development Fund. The playground originally was to be built on the Marblehead Coastal property and funded in part by $600,000 from SunCal. The impending bankruptcy proceedings of the Marblehead Coastal project led planners to consider moving the Courtney’s Sandcastle to a previously undeveloped piece of the new sports park. Councilmember Wayne Eggleston has stated that while he is in favor of the move to the sports park and for building the playground, he is opposed to taxpayer dollars funding it. “This is supposed to have been funded with developer funds and private funding,” said Eggleston. “We have a lot of other priorities in this city that require funding.”
