The U.S. Navy has awarded the USS Hornet aircraft carrier museum a $300,000 grant to develop a program to teach science, technology, engineering and math to students in kindergarten through high school.

The idea behind the effort, which is being crafted with the U.S. Naval Academy and the Naval Historical Foundation, is to create curriculum that can be used at any Naval museum in the United States.

Similar STEM programs are in place at schools and organizations across the country as a way to help spark the interest of young people in science and technology, as well as to give them the skills needed to compete in a global economy.
