A building complex that U.S. Navy sailors once used as a barracks would be transformed into an international boarding school and apartments to provide assisted living for seniors under a proposal that the Planning Board will consider on Monday.
The former Bachelors' Enlisted Men's Quarters at 2401 Lexington St. has been vacant since the Alameda Naval Air Station closed in April 1997 and is now dilapidated.
Along with the school and apartments, developer Alameda United Commercial LLC proposes to build offices, expand the bicycle and vehicle parking and provide $20 million worth of infrastructure upgrades.
