Excerpt:
Solar electricity, grey water recycling, a rain water collection system, a living roof and recycled building products are all features of the new green building being built at Ploughshares Nursery at Alameda Point. Ploughshares is a social enterprise of the Alameda Point Collaborative. Community members, Alameda Point Collaborative leaders, the building team, and Ploughshares workers gathered on a sunny Wednesday afternoon to celebrate the official start of construction of the facility that will house nursery retail space, offices and a root cellar. This will be the first new construction at Alameda Point since the closure of the Naval Air Station sixteen years ago.
