Alameda Sun: Navy Allows Mosquito Population Explosion, June 14, 2012

Residents living at Alameda Point have noticed an increase in the aggressiveness in mosquitoes compared to years past.

"Mosquitoes are back and more aggressive than ever," said Amy Marrs, who lives at Alameda Point.

During a 24-hour span in May, Marrs' two young sons were bitten numerous times. The Marrs family called the Alameda County Mosquito Abatement District (ACMAD), but they were unable to help.

ACMAD field technician Michelle Izumizaki said the Navy denied them access to a marshland that nested mosquitoes on Site 2 of the Point.

"As a result, acres of mosquitoes hatched out," stated Izumizaki in her mosquito inspection report.
