The developer that planned to build a 12,000-resident community at Alameda's former Naval Air Station has lost the biggest part of its breach-of-contract suit against the city: a claim for more than $100 million in lost profits.

SunCal has accused Alameda of violating a 2007 agreement that gave the Orange County company exclusive rights to negotiate a construction plan for Alameda Point, which covers one-third of the island city. The City Council voted to break off relations in July 2010, five months after city voters overwhelmingly refused to exempt the project from Alameda's ban on multiunit housing.
