Alameda Sun: City Lands Grant to Study Base, September 29, 2011
Excerpt:
Last week the city received a $225,000 grant from the Department of Defense’s Office of Economic Adjustment (OEA) to create an economic development strategy for Alameda Point. The strategy, when finished, will detail how the city will attract more businesses to the old naval base.
“The strategy will identify which types of businesses to target for Alameda Point with an emphasis on employment generating uses, and will develop a leasing strategy for attracting specific industries to our unique property and existing building stock,” stated City Manager John Russo in a press release.
Though the grant will help the city develop a general business strategy for the old naval base, it should also help the city attract businesses interested in being close to the second Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, if the city is awarded the second campus in November.
