Candidate Johnson's answer to the Democratic Club Questionnaire
Alameda Point will not have 5,000 or so housing units, and not have approximately 4.5 million square feet of new commercial/office development, with no transportation plan and no commercial plan, as was recently proposed. Alameda Point will have a plan which includes a true housing/jobs balance, with greater emphasis on jobs. This will allow greater reuse of existing structures. There is great interest in Alameda Point. I do not believe that Alameda requires a master developer to move forward with redevelopment of Alameda Point. That will allow financial resources to remain in the project. There will be transportation infrastructure to serve the employees and residents. The development at Alameda Point will benefit and complement the entire community and not just the developer.
