Supporters of City Councilwoman Lena Tam on Tuesday called on the two top city officials who spearheaded an investigation of her to resign or be put on leave by the council following Alameda County District Attorney Nancy O'Malley's announcement that her office will not pursue a case against Tam. And they said they want an audit into the cost of the investigation.

But the officials, Interim City Manager Ann Marie Gallant and City Attorney Teresa Highsmith, said they stand by their decision to look into Tam's actions and by reports written by attorney Michael Colantuono. His reports, as part of his investigation for the city, accused Tam of leaking confidential information to developer SunCal and the local firefighters' union and of violating the state's open meetings law by blind-copying Councilwoman Marie Gilmore on e-mails she sent to other council members.
