Excerpt:
BACKGROUND
The City of Alameda is scheduled to become the owner of significant parts of the
Alameda Point property by the end of this year. As a result, the next logical step is for
the City to decide how to facilitate the development of the property. Staff presented
some initial thoughts and findings regarding a Disposition and Development Strategy
(Strategy) to the City at its December 7, 2011 meeting, and made a presentation on
staff' s proposed Strategy to the City Council on February 7 2012. On March 20 2012
staff recommended a Strategy for Alameda Point to the City Council , including specific
next steps , and received direction from the City Council to come back in May with more
detailed information on a budget, schedule , and Request for Proposals (RFP) for a
development advisor. As requested by the City Council , this staff report presents
information on the proposed budget, schedule , and RFP for a development advisor, and
responds to a number of other questions raised at and after the March 20 meeting by
the City Council and members of the community. Based on feedback provided by the
City Council on the information presented this evening, staff is seeking approval to
proceed with the next steps in the proposed Strategy.
