When the East Bay Regional Park District hosted "Return of the Terns" at Alameda Point, residents and nonresidents alike boarded a bus that took them to the former Naval Air Station. As the bus moved away from the Crab Cove Visitor Center, a specialist explained the parenting habits of the California least tern, an endangered species of bird whose migratory patterns bring them to the base yearly in order to reproduce.
